Staff Attorney

The Economic Development Unit of Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a full-time attorney for its Paseo Office in Kansas City, Missouri. The attorney will work with inner-city neighborhood associations and local non-profit community development corporations on targeted inner-city community improvement initiatives. This position will focus heavily on real estate transactions and civil land-use litigation with the target outcomes being blight remediation, affordable housing preservation, and community re-investment.  This position requires significant interaction with Kansas City neighborhoods, so local travel and some evening and weekend work will be required. 
 
The qualified candidate must have the following: 

• Active Missouri Bar license or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity
• Computer proficiency
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal assistance
• Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required
• Courtroom experience preferred
• Experience handling community development cases is preferred, but not required
