JOB SPECIFICATIONS 

  • Title: Digital Engagement and Content Manager 

  • Reports to: Senior Director of Communications and Marketing 

  • Department: Communications, External Relations Division, Central Office 

  • Location: Remote (Kansas or Missouri) 

  • Classification & Status: Exempt, Full-Time 

  • Work Schedule: 40-hour work week, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM 

JOB SUMMARY 

The Digital Engagement and Content Manager will report to the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing. This role is responsible for executing SparkWheel’s Marketing & Communications Strategic Plan and leading the implementation of content strategy, digital communications, engagement initiatives, and promotional efforts across multiple channels. This position will ensure accurate and engaging information is shared across digital platforms, the SparkWheel website, social media, and internal systems. The Digital Engagement and Content Manager will work collaboratively with the Senior Director and other departments to raise awareness of SparkWheel’s mission and impact. This role combines creative storytelling with strategic communications to engage diverse audiences, including school district leaders, donors, policymakers, and partners. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

Content Strategy and Creation (40%) 

  • Develop and execute comprehensive content strategies across all digital platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice. 

  • Write, edit, and manage compelling content for the website, blog, monthly newsletter, and social media channels. 

  • Provide marketing and communications support across agency departments as needed, including working with the CEO, Programs, Policy and Government Relations, and Development teams to translate complex findings into accessible content for various audiences. 

  • Collaborate with the Development team to create targeted content for fundraising initiatives and donor engagement, including the annual fundraising campaign and events. 

  • Collaborate with the Policy and Government Relations team to create targeted content for engaging and educating policymakers on issues important to SparkWheel. 

  • Design and produce print and promotional materials.  

  • Collaborate on the development of informational packets and event collateral.  

  • Create branded templates for staff use in outreach and events.  

  • Coordinate with site staff to collect, edit, and share success stories. 

  • Create engaging multimedia content, including photos, videos, and infographics to support storytelling. 

  • Develop branded videos and support promotional podcast content. 

  • Support the production and dissemination of press releases across network regions. 

  • Support the blog writing and review process. 

  • Manage the production of digital newsletters. 

  • Support the creation and execution of the Annual Report, from content collection to final production. 

  • Maintain editorial calendar and coordinate content production with internal teams. 

  • Curate and maintain key lists of influencers and partner organizations for engagement. 

Digital Engagement (40%) 

  • Research and apply best practices for social media and content performance. 

  • Lead social media strategy and management across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube. 

  • Plan and execute organic social media campaigns to support strategic communications priorities and increase visibility and engagement. 

  • Execute digital advertising efforts, including Google Ad Grant management. 

  • Serve as website content editor, ensuring timely updates and alignment with campaign messaging. 

  • Manage intranet content and updates for the Board of Directors. 

  • Monitor and analyze engagement metrics to optimize content strategy and campaign performance. 

  • Track monthly analytics across digital platforms and provide performance reports. 

Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations (20%) 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing on public relations strategies and brand development. 

  • Supports the Director of Donor and Media Relations in executing media campaigns. 

  • Attend key events and promote SparkWheel’s work and mission.  

  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives as directed.  

  • Completes other tasks and activities as assigned by the President and CEO or Chief Development Officer.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

Qualifications: 

At a minimum, the Digital Engagement and Content Manager must have a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field. In addition, the Digital Engagement and Content Manager shall have: 

  • At least 3 years of experience successfully managing digital communications, or in a similar role. 

  • Proven track record in developing successful content strategies and engagement campaigns, preferably in a non-profit setting. 

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. 

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with meticulous attention to detail. 

  • Dedication to relationship building and a commitment to working as an integral part of the team while exercising significant initiative and autonomy. 

  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other content tools. 

  • Experience working with CMS platforms, email marketing tools, social media scheduling software, and social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social). 

  • Video editing and production skills.  

  • Outstanding analytical, creative, and strategic thinking skills. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams.

  • Lifting Requirement: 25 pounds 

  • Travel Requirements:  

  • Occasional travel (up to 10% of the time) – events, meetings, travel between school sites, etc. 

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Transportation 

  • Auto insurance 

  • Pass various background checks
