Marketing & Communications Associate
Summary
American Public Square is a 501 c(3) organization with a mission to build stronger, more connected communities through civil discourse, engagement and education. We are currently looking for an energetic, highly organized Marketing & Communications Associate to promote and support a successful schedule of community events and programs. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of professional experience, demonstrated communication skills, a desire to work hard and learn on the job, and a commitment to helping to fulfill our mission in the community. Terms of the position, including hours and compensation, are flexible and can be mutually determined with the right candidate.
Meetings & Coordination
- Meet weekly with APS programs team to ensure all marketing/communications needs and deadlines are met
- Attend weekly APS staff meetings & report on marketing & communications activities
- Attend & staff every APS event; help with set up, breakdown (1-2 per month typically on weekday evenings)
- Design graphics as needed for APS events
- Build & send dedicated event invites in APS template as needed (estimated 1-2 per month)
- Work with web vendor to set up event pages as needed within a determined timeframe
- Design pre-event Powerpoint slide shows using existing templates
- Work with A/V technical staff on livestream events as needed; manage livestream and comments/questions during APS events
- Media liaison for APS events—includes outreach to media outlets ahead of time, development of media communications plan, coordinating interviews with APS staff, panelists and partners
General Marketing & Communications
- Work with APS team to outline social media strategy and coordinate team posting
- Administer APS Canva account
- Create, send and report on monthly newsletters including Member & General newsletters (2 newsletters per month on pre-determined dates)
- Assist with other communication needs as they arise (Member appeals, message development)
- Additional duties as assigned
- Knowledge of Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva & Wordpress
- Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Powerpoint
- Position is based in Kansas City; dedicated in-office hours are required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Reliable transportation and an ability to work from home if needed
- Some evening hours required

Salary Range: $30,000 - 49,999
