Field Coordinator

Job Description:

JCDP is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to fill the role of part-time Field Coordinator. The Field Coordinator will play a pivotal role in engaging, retaining, organizing, and mobilizing volunteers to support our party's initiatives and voter outreach within Johnson County. This is a salaried, seasonal, part-time position based in Johnson County, Kansas, with occasional travel within the county and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

Volunteer Engagement

  • Volunteer Recruitment: Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers from diverse backgrounds and demographics within the county. Ascertain the motivation for volunteering and determine the individual’s talents, strengths, abilities and availability to find the right role for every volunteer.

  • Volunteer Training: In collaboration with existing staff, organize and conduct training sessions to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to our party's activities.   

  • Volunteer Retention: Develop retention strategies to foster long-term engagement and commitment among volunteers.  Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.

  • Develop paths for volunteers to grow their skills toward other roles within the organization.

Communication

  • Database Management: Maintain accurate records of volunteer information, activities, and feedback using appropriate software.

  • Prepare regular reports on volunteer activities, achievements, and challenges for party leadership.

  • Communicate regularly with Senate District Leaders regarding new and existing volunteers within the Senate District, and regarding opportunities to develop Precinct Leaders.

  • Attend weekly meetings with Party Officers and monthly Executive Board meetings.

  • Maintain a positive culture within the organization.

Calendar & Events

  • Collaborate with party leadership to plan and execute canvassing efforts, phone banking sessions, and other activities requiring volunteer participation.

  • Maintain JCDP website calendar with events and volunteer opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a commitment to the Democratic Party’s values, principles, and objectives.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Must have a positive, outgoing personality focused on community service. 

  • Must have extensive canvassing experience.

  • Previous experience in volunteer management, community organizing, political campaigns, or grassroots activism.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, politically charged environment.

  • Proficiency in using Google Workspace.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, especially during peak campaign seasons.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field. 

  • Prior experience using Votebuilder/VAN.

Compensation and Timeline:

  • This seasonal position will last approximately 6 months, beginning in May or June, and concludes after the November election. 

  • This part-time position will pay between $1500 and $2500 per month, depending on experience, to be determined during the interview process.
