Fundraising and Communications Specialist
ABOUT THE JUNIOR LEAGUE
The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri (JLKC) is a 501(c)(3) organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Since 1914, the JLKC has raised 19 million dollars for our mission and donated more than 2.6 million hours of volunteer time to more than 350 agencies. Over the years, the League has made a significant impact at some of Kansas City’s most well-known institutions, including Children’s Mercy Hospital, Ronald McDonald Houses, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and Kansas City Zoo, to name a few.

- Has proven experience as a professional communicator, including writing, design, branding, and related capacities
- Has proven experience in all aspects of the donor life cycle, from initial engagement through record-keeping and management
- Possesses an ambitious, driven attitude towards all aspects of fundraising, from strategically supporting fundraising events to executing grants to donor development
Fund Development & Strategy
- Partner with the President and Director of Fund Development to support the annual fundraising strategy and execution plan aligned to Board-approved revenue goals
- Support sponsorship outreach, partnership cultivation, grant writing, and stewardship reporting
- Serve as a central coordinator for strategic fundraising efforts, ensuring alignment and follow-through across stakeholders
- Research prospects and support strategies for major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving
- Lead grant-writing efforts from opportunity identification through submission
- Assist in campaign planning and execution, including future capital or strategic campaigns
- Provide regular fundraising reports to the Board, including monthly dashboard updates
- Support continuity and operational excellence across annual fundraising events
- Attend and support JLKC’s major fundraising events
- Attend Fund Development Council and Marketing Council meetings monthly
- Attend relevant Board of Directors and committee meetings as needed
- Meet regularly with the Director of Fund Development, Director of Marketing, and key volunteer leaders
- Support the President and Board in collaborative fundraising and external engagement efforts
Communications & Marketing Execution
- Partner with the President and Director of Marketing to support strategic communications initiatives
- Develop and execute member and donor communications across multiple channels, including:
- Email campaigns and newsletters
- Print and direct mail
- Invitations, brochures, and campaign materials
- Website and social media content
- Manage and execute donor and member mailing campaigns
- Serve as a resource to Marketing Council and fundraising leaders to ensure brand alignment and message consistency
- Support integrated campaigns that advance fundraising, membership engagement, and community visibility
Organizational Support
- Identify opportunities to strengthen systems, processes, and cross-functional alignment across fundraising and communications
- Support evolving organizational needs in a growing, dynamic nonprofit environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Proven success in fundraising, development, and communications within a nonprofit, membership-based organization
- Demonstrated understanding of relationship-driven fundraising and donor stewardship best practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional grammar and attention to detail
- Experience working with Boards, volunteer leaders, and donors
- Proficiency (or willingness to be trained) in:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Fundraising platforms (e.g., Little Green Light or similar CRM)
- CRM systems and donor management tools
- Email marketing and social media platforms
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and responsiveness
- Commitment to long-term, team-oriented collaboration
- $45,000 - $60,000 annual compensation, commensurate with experience.
