Unit Director

Overview:

Directs and manages overall daily operations of a school-based Unit under the control of the organization with the primary concern for a comprehensive, outcome-driven program, and service delivery.  Also recruits, supervises and trains staff, handles personnel issues, builds and maintains school level relationships, manages a budget, actively engages and manages community relations and volunteers, and manages member recruitment and membership administration.

 

Classification: Full-time, salaried exempt.

 

Salary: $45,000.00-$55,000.00, commensurate with experience.

 

Reports To: Director of Programs.

 

Supervises: Part-time Unit staff and AmeriCorps Member volunteers.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Leadership:

  • Establish school-based Unit programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes.

  • Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with well-maintained facilities, equipment and supplies.

 
  1. Strategic Planning:

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate school-based Unit programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and meet member needs 

 

and interests.

  • Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.

 
  1. Resource Management:

  • Manages school-based Unit financial resources within the assigned annual budget.

  • Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club property equipment. 

  • Ensure compliance with organization policies.

  • Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for school-based Unit staff and volunteers. 

  • Conduct regular staff meetings.

 
  1. Partnership Development:

Develop partnerships with parents, school personnel, community leaders, and organizations.

 
  1. Marketing and Public Relations:

Work with BGCLK Marketing Department to develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services, and activities within the Club and the community.

 
  1. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Purchase supplies and equipment for program implementation.

  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.

  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members.

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

 
  1. Relationships:

Internal  

  • Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.

  • Maintain regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External

Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, member parents, and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the Club.

 

Qualifications:

  • Four-year (4) degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

 
  • A minimum of three (3) to five-years (5) work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or 

similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, partnership management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.

  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.

  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.

  • Skilled at fundraising events.

  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents, and community leaders.
