Community Engagement Coordinator

Posted: 08/23/2026

About La Paz KC & Grandview Park Presbyterian Church
La Paz KC is a set of community programs rooted in the Central Avenue corridor of Kansas City, Kansas, and housed at Grandview Park Presbyterian Church: a monthly food pantry and community breakfast, a summer youth program, a Compassion Fund for emergency assistance, and La Cocina de la Paz, a commercial kitchen supporting local food entrepreneurs. The work is grounded in relationship, welcome, and mutual aid.

The opportunity
We are seeking a community engagement coordinator to connect and strengthen these programs and to deepen La Paz’s relationships in the surrounding neighborhood. This is a contract role of up to half-time, running approximately 12 months, with hours shaped to fit the right person. It suits someone with strong community organizing instincts and existing relationships in Wyandotte County.

Scope of work
Program support and connection. Work alongside the coordinators of the four core programs (pantry and breakfast, summer program, Compassion Fund, kitchen) to coordinate volunteers, strengthen communication across programs, and help participants in one program connect to the others.

Community outreach and organizing. Design and execute outreach in the residential blocks surrounding La Paz; plan and facilitate neighborhood gatherings and listening sessions using the La Paz kitchen and dining space; and build documented relationships with partner organizations, including nonprofits, faith communities, civic groups, and service providers.

Sustainability and grants. Maintain simple records of outreach, attendance, and partnerships to support grant reporting; help research and write grant applications; and support La Paz KC’s transition toward an independent 501(c)(3) community organization.

Who we are looking for
•Rooted in or deeply familiar with Wyandotte County
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
•Experience in community organizing, outreach, or neighborhood engagement
•Comfortable writing: outreach materials, simple reports, grant drafts
•Self-directed, able to manage their own time and priorities to meet deliverables
•Aligned with the values of La Paz: dignity, welcome, and mutual flourishing

Terms
•Contract period: approximately 12 months, target start October 2026
