Comprehensive Public Safety Manager

Position Overview
 
KC Common Good seeks a steady, collaborative, and community-centered leader to serve as Comprehensive Public Safety Manager, providing strategic and operational leadership for KC 360, our community-based violence reduction collective. This role facilitates and strengthens a cross-sector network committed to reducing violence and advancing lasting community safety by centering neighborhoods and residents most impacted. Working closely with the Director of Programs and Operations, CEO, staff, volunteers, and partners, the Manager convenes stakeholders, aligns strategy, tracks outcomes, and ensures KC 360 operates as a high-functioning collective impact initiative that builds trust and delivers measurable results.

Key Responsibilities
 
    Facilitator
  • Plan and facilitate weekly KC 360 convenings with more than 80 cross-sector partner organizations, strengthening engagement across subcommittees and neighborhood initiatives.
  • Recruit, retain, and deepen the engagement and impact of volunteer participants in KC 360, KC 360 subcommittees, and Village Initiative stakeholders.
  • Foster a solutions-oriented, collaborative culture that advances shared goals and collective impact.
    Collaborative Leader
  • Build trusted relationships across sectors, including: faith, health, education, business, law and justice, government, funders, and community violence intervention partners.
  • Navigate diverse perspectives with credibility and empathy, serving as a steady leader and spokesperson when needed.
  • Work with neighborhood leadership and stakeholders, centering those most impacted by violence.
    Strategic Implementor
  • Understand and amplify the roles and contributions to public safety from all sectors of the community. Mobilize resources, both human and financial, to support the plan.
  • Drive programs that amplify and elevate youth and young people, such as the Youth Advisory Board.
  • Communicate with funders; from local to national, governmental to institutional funding sources. Write and present summarized reports tracking the progress toward program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to gather and analyze data, providing insights that guide continuous improvement and learning.
    Convener and Partner Stewardship
  • Provide strategic leadership to align partner activities, ensuring a cohesive and synergistic approach to comprehensive public safety.
  • Enhance staff, community, and institutional collaboration with community violence intervention and prevention practitioners. Learn from, align with, and support the work of others who positively impact community safety.
  • Advocate for neighborhood-centered approaches, with the ability to navigate complex systems and political structures.
  • Embody the KC Common Good brand, effectively communicating our “why” in how we as a community collectively ensure peace is a promise kept for all.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in systems change and managing community-based initiatives.
  • Strong communicator and skilled facilitator with the ability to build consensus and guide collaborative decision-making.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in collaborative leadership, facilitating, social impact, public policy, project management, or related field.
  • Experience working effectively within team environments and cross-sector partnerships.
  • Familiarity with asset-based or social impact design approaches to community development.
  • Commitment to measurable outcomes, innovation, and strategies that drive broad community impact.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about collective impact, community safety, social determinants, and social justice.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, shared documents, and data tracking tools, with the ability to develop reports and dashboards.
  • Strong organizational, fund development, and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt in dynamic environments.
Work conditions may include:
  • Hybrid position based in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
  • In-person work before and after KC 360 meetings, in KC 360 Village neighborhoods; some evenings and weekends are required.
  • Frequent use of email, video calls, phone calls, and text communication.
  • Reliable transportation is needed for meetings, events, and community activities.
Physical Demands
  • Regular sitting and standing; handling electronics, camera, and A/V equipment.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Continuous use of vision at close and far distances to perform job duties.

Salary is commensurate with experience, from $75,000 a year.  Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, vision insurance plans, and a retirement savings account with employer match.
