Transplant Mentor Program Director
Title: Transplant Mentor Program Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Classification: Exempt, Full-Time (30 hours/week)
Salary range: $53,000 - $58,000

ORGANIZATION: Gift of Life promotes organ, eye, and tissue donation through education, mentoring and collaboration with partners and individuals in the transplant community. Gift of Life offers two signature programs. The Life Savers high school classroom education program empowers students to make informed decisions about organ, eye, and tissue donation. The Transplant Mentor program matches trained volunteer mentors to transplant patients, living donors and care partners to provide insight, information, encouragement, and support throughout the transplant process and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY
Gift of Life’s Transplant Mentor program has helped thousands of patients and families find strength, understanding, and hope during the most challenging times of their lives. The Program Director leads this signature initiative, ensuring its growth, excellence, and long-term impact. This role requires a relational leader who can build trust with healthcare professionals, transplant centers, and volunteers, while also managing the systems, processes, and strategies that keep the program strong.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership & Management- Lead all aspects of the Transplant Mentor program, ensuring quality and consistency of support.
- Grow program participation by building strong relationships with transplant professionals, integrating mentoring into processes, and maintaining regular communication with referral partners.
- Recruit, train, and engage volunteer mentors, ensuring ongoing development and retention.
- Receive and screen patient referrals, carefully matching patients, living donors, and care partners with appropriate mentors.
- Develop, document, and track program processes, metrics, and outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Partner with the Marketing & Events Coordinator to create and maintain program materials (curricula, manuals, presentations, website, brochures).
- Deliver compelling presentations for outreach, mentor trainings, and community outreach events.
- Represent Gift of Life externally, building and sustaining strategic partnerships with healthcare systems, OPOs, and community partners.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to design and implement fundraising strategies that support program sustainability.
- Identify and cultivate potential donors, sponsors, and community partners connected to the transplant community.
- Assist with grant applications and reporting related to Transplant Mentors.
- Support fundraising events and campaigns as part of the Gift of Life team.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five years’ professional experience, with at least one year in a healthcare setting; direct experience with transplant patients strongly preferred.
- Management experience and volunteer coordination background preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, achieving measurable results.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, able to connect across diverse populations.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong follow-through and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and database/CRM platforms.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends.
- Personal connection to organ, eye, or tissue donation/transplantation is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Office-based with flexibility for prearranged remote work to meet organizational priorities.
- Regular use of standard office equipment and digital platforms.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
