Visual Arts Program Director

Westport Center for the Arts (Kansas City, MO) is seeking a creative and organized Program Director to lead our free and low-cost visual art exhibit program. This role plays a key part in shaping an inclusive and welcoming visual arts presence in the Westport neighborhood.

WCA presents concerts, exhibits, and collaborations that celebrate Kansas City’s artists and make the arts accessible to everyone. The Visual Arts Program Director plans and implements exhibits, coordinates with artists, oversees installation and takedown of exhibits, and works with administrative personnel to plan and run events such as openings and receptions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience or education in visual arts, art curation, gallery management, or a related field
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Comfortable working independently with guidance or feedback when needed/requested
  • Comfortable managing multiple project timelines and exhibit logistics
  • Experience working directly with artists and community partners
Preferred
  • Active artist, or strong connections with artists in the Kansas City Area
  • Familiarity with art installation practices, particularly cable hanging systems
  • Experience with budgets and contract coordination
  • Interest in community based, accessible visual arts programming
Details: Contract position with flexible schedule. Expected average commitment of 10 hours per month. Compensation of $800 base stipend plus $140 per exhibit.
