Coordinator, Refugee Housing

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Engage the community to support efforts of refugee resettlement by building capacity in Refugee and Immigration Services programming. This individual will successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas through the establishment and implementation of services focusing on volunteer engagement, resource development, and community outreach. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Engage in the resettlement process in pre-arrival through verifications and working with U.S. Ties/landlords, and in post-arrival through coordinating move-ins, explaining home safety procedures, and addressing ongoing housing issues that promote more efficient programming.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to expand housing options and new landlord contacts for newly arriving families and individuals. Support clients in locating rental properties, signing lease agreements, and orienting them to their new home.
  • Find housing for clients before their arrival to the United States and coordinating with assigned case manager.
  • Coordinate and recruit volunteers, transportation and staff to assist with new refugee home move-ins.
  • Ensure the completion of the Reception and Placement (R&P) Home Safety Checklist as required by R&P Core Services Agreement.
  • Provide training and ongoing supervision to an Americorps VISTA whose role is supporting the housing and donations of the resettlement program.
  • This position requires record keeping and ordering inventories from NFM, Walmart, and Amazon. Provide support in donation and inventory coordination when VISTA position is unfilled as well as maintain/oversee inventory invoices.
  • Must keep records of all supply vouchers with correct prices and provide copy to case manager after distribution of R&P supplies.
  • Complete all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with funding requirements and agency quality assurance standards. This includes case notes and other documents related to housing.
  • Coordinate with facilities team on maintaining vehicles used by the resettlement program, including mileage tracking, communicating maintenance and updates, and other vehicle-related needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is very diverse, with a familiarity of refugee populations and able to ensure confidentiality of all clients.
  • Establish highly effective relationships with clients, community agencies, volunteers, and other staff members and landlords
  • Must be reliable, punctual, professional, and able to follow instructions and handle emergency situations. Must also be able to work independently from general instructions.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, and weekends.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or relevant work experience. Experience working with refugees, affordable housing and/or volunteers, preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Kansas or Missouri Driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance and a verified safe driving record.
  • Must have competent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills along with strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds - may need to lift or move heavier items (ex: couch) based on resettlement needs of clients
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases
  • Must have the physical ability to make visits to a variety of environments that may include walking on rough terrain and climbing stairs
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
