Mental Health Therapist - Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Posted: 02/26/2026

At Futures First, our values drive everything we do. We believe every child deserves a strong start, every caregiver deserves support, and every family deserves access to culturally responsive mental health care. This position plays a critical role in expanding our reach to Spanish-first-language families, ensuring that pregnant and postpartum mothers — and the children they nurture — receive linguistically and culturally affirming therapeutic support.

Summary:
The Bilingual Therapist provides mental health treatment to families with young children, with a primary focus on delivering the Moving Beyond Depression (MBD) model — an evidence-based, in-home cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention for pregnant and postpartum mothers experiencing depression.

In this role, you will support families in Spanish and English, strengthen parent–child relationships, and help caregivers build skills that promote emotional wellbeing, bonding, and resilience. You will also provide mental health services to families outside of MBD, supporting our broader clinical work.

Benefits Offered:

  • Licensure Supervision
  • Medical Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • Vision & Dental Insurance
  • Short Term Disability Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan with matching up to 2%
  • Yearly 5% employer retirement contribution
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Rolling Paid Holidays (Instead of a fixed holiday schedule, employees may observe holidays that reflect their personal, cultural, or religious beliefs.)
  • Flexible Work Schedules (Hybrid Model)
  Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-home, community-based, or virtual CBT through the Moving Beyond Depression model for both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking pregnant and postpartum mothers.
  • Complete assessments, safety planning, and individualized treatment plans.
  • Deliver services that reflect Futures First Values: equity, belonging, collaboration, resilience, and whole-family wellbeing.
  • Offer culturally responsive support to families whose first language is Spanish, ensuring accessibility and psychological safety.
  • Provide mental health therapy for children and caregivers as needed outside of MBD.
  • Collaborate with early childhood programs, home visitors, medical providers, and community partners to coordinate care.
  • Maintain timely documentation and participate in reflective supervision, coaching, and required MBD training.
  • Advocate for families by connecting them to community resources and support.
  What Makes This Role Meaningful
  • You will help eliminate barriers to care for Spanish-speaking parents experiencing perinatal depression.
  • You will directly contribute to stronger caregiver–child bonds, healthier births, improved maternal mental health, and resilient families.
  • You will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to early childhood emotional wellness.
  • You will receive specialized training in Moving Beyond Depression, reflective practice, and early childhood mental health approaches.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to build strong therapeutic relationships with caregivers in their preferred language.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the community and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to Futures First Mission & Values.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or related field.
  • Kansas or Missouri clinical licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, etc.) or eligibility to obtain.
  • Experience with CBT, perinatal mental health, home-based services, or early childhood populations preferred (training provided).
  • Lived or professional experience working with Spanish-speaking communities strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel locally for in-home sessions.
  • Ability to sit, drive, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. (therapy materials, car seat, etc.).
