Police Advocacy Coordinator

Rose Brooks Center, a non-profit domestic violence agency, seeks a Police Advocacy Coordinator, whose primary role will be to provide survivor-centered, accessible, trauma-informed advocacy and safety planning services to victims of domestic violence seen by the Domestic Violence Section of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. This position is co-located within the Kansas City Missouri Police Department Domestic Violence Section and will work cooperatively and collaboratively to establish, implement, and evaluate an improved system for holding batterers accountable and improving victim safety.  This position provides data control for grant compliance, coordinates services, collaborates with other Rose Brooks Center staff and service providers in the community, and coordinates the quality and quantity of services provided. The Police Advocacy Coordinator will support the mission and values of the agency and reports to the Community Coordinated Response Manager.
 
 
OTHER ASPECTS OF THE JOB:                                  

  • Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with agency policies and procedures, while demonstrating proficiency in all RBC competencies and utilizing the principles of trauma informed care, and accessibility; demonstrates a commitment to the overall mission of Rose Brooks Center.
  • Maintain awareness about the risks of secondary trauma and understand one’s own responsibility of self-care.
  • Attend scheduled staff, team and supervision meetings; participate in all required trainings.
  • Maintain office hours at the Kansas City Police Department Domestic Violence Section office space and on-site at Rose Brooks Center throughout each week.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum one year advocacy experience, preferably with a domestic violence agency
  • Knowledgeable of domestic violence, criminal justice system, and trauma informed care
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft 365 and other software
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance
 
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field or commensurate; courses or classwork related to human services, social work, etc.
  • Experience working in a court setting and/or with law enforcement preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
 
HOURS:
Full-time, exempt position. Minimum 40-hrs per week, Monday-Friday, and may include some evenings, weekends and holidays. This position is in-person and requires office hours on site as well as co-located in the Kansas City Missouri Police Department Domestic Violence Section.
 
Compensation: This position falls into a salary range starting at $46,000 annually (exempt).
