Social Worker
LEGAL AID OF WESTERN MISSOURI
Social Worker - Independence, MO
Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff person for its Social Work Assistance Program (SWAP). This employee will provide targeted case management services to Legal Aid clients needing assistance with non-legal issues, such as:
- completing applications for Medicaid, Food Stamps, unemployment, and other public benefits;
- pursuing rent and/or utility assistance;
- searching for affordable housing or temporary shelter;
- searching for employment and training opportunities;
- seeking out affordable medical care and related services;
- advocating for clients and helping them understand and exercise their rights within the social service delivery system; and
- procuring documentation requested by attorneys to improve legal outcomes.
This employee will also handle a variety of project oversight and planning tasks, including:
- recruiting and supervising social work practicum interns;
- tracking and overseeing SWAP referrals, assistance provided, and case outcomes;
- updating SWAP policies, including formalizing evaluation practices and expanding written practicum procedures;
- engaging in regular contacts with Legal Aid staff to identify/educate about appropriate SWAP referrals;
- attending outreach events and acting as a point of contact with community partners;
- and performing other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time position housed in our Independence, Missouri office; however, the employee will work with all our offices and may occasionally be required to travel outside of the Kansas City metro area.

The qualified candidate must have the following: a Master of Social Work degree; familiarity with community resources; strong written and oral communication skills; and a desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality assistance to low-income clients.
Salary: $50,000/year + DOE
