Therapist
Agency Mission: To ensure that children and families affected by child abuse receive a compassionate, community-based intervention through a multidisciplinary team approach to prevent, identify, investigate, prosecute, and treat child maltreatment.
Primary Description: Provides assessment and trauma-focused treatment services to children served by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Douglas County. Provide support to parents and victims of abuse.
Responsibilities:
1. Receives referrals from CACDC family advocates and partners for children that may need therapy and counseling.
2. Develops initial assessment and formulate treatment plans.
3. Provides evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health therapy services to children and adolescents, such as Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Problematic Sexual Behavior-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(PSB-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Informed Care, or play therapy.
4. Conducts a variety of treatment approaches, including individual and group therapy.
5. Facilitates psycho-educational family support groups. Provide education to non-offending caregivers to understand the dynamics of victimization, and provide support and guidance to address their child’s needs.
6. Attends and participates in Multidisciplinary Team meetings and staff meetings. Confers with other agency representatives as appropriate.
7. Prepares timely, thorough and accurate case notes and of individual, family or group sessions. Maintains appropriate records for reporting, evaluation, and clinical purposes. Prepares reports as necessary.
8. Attends skills-based training to remain abreast of latest research, trends and best practice standards in child abuse/neglect, trauma-informed therapy modalities and cultural sensitivity. Attends relevant continuing education opportunities and conferences as approved by the supervisor.
9. Attend annual agency functions and meetings as requested.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements: Master’s level professionally licensed in the state of Kansas, in good standing with the licensing agency. Clearance through Kansas Child Abuse Registry and criminal background check. Direct work experience with abused children and their families. Familiarity with diagnostic and treatment planning approaches, mental health theory and practice, and ethical considerations in the mental health field. Knowledgeable of dynamics of child abuse; ability to engage children of all ages; and empower and mediate with parents in crisis. Must work effectively with individuals from various economic, social and cultural backgrounds. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to accomplish and advance program goals, a willingness to remain abreast of current research related to child abuse/neglect, and an ability to remain sensitive and demonstrate appropriate boundaries with program clients, agency staff and volunteers. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings. Must be willing to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Requirements: A clinically licensed therapist is preferred. Three years or more of direct work experience with abused children and their families. Certification to provide Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). adults
Specific Needs: This position will provide trauma therapy to children and their supportive and Problematic Sexual Behavior-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(PSB-CBT) to youth and their caregivers by the group model, training will be provided.
Status: Full time at 37.5hrs a week/Salaried, $65,000-$75,000yr (rate dependent on license status and experience), position includes Health Insurance Reimbursement, generous PTO, professional development and training in TF-CBT and PSB-CBT.
