Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

Position Summary:

Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by providing coordination and implementation of an effective volunteer program. Assist Catholic Charities staff in matters pertaining to the effective recruitment, orientation, onboarding, retention, and utilization of volunteers serving at Catholic Charities. EEO.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a successful onboarding process by responding to calls and emails from prospective volunteers in a timely and professional manner, conducting interviews and placing volunteers in roles that suit their skills, interests and fill a program need
  • Prepare and manage welcome packets for new volunteers (including name tag, t-shirt and the volunteer handbook)
  • Maintain accurate record keeping to ensure all required steps of the volunteer onboarding process are being met, including completion of VIRTUS training and background checks
  • Retain accurate data entry in Volgistics, SharePoint and Microsoft Excel for effective reports, volunteer communications and audits
  • Support the Volunteer Engagement Manager in upholding volunteer policies, practices and standards.  Familiarity with VIRTUS is preferred.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure proper volunteer placement, identify new volunteers opportunities, and provide training and support to staff
  • Manage on-going volunteer mailings, including birthday and Christmas cards
  • Create and distribute recruitment materials to community partners
  • Maintain updated postings on third party websites to increase volunteer recruitment
  • Schedule and host group serve opportunities
  • Attend community events in our 21 county service area to promote Catholic Charities and recruit new volunteers
  • Support volunteer appreciation events
  • Assist with the development and implementation of volunteer trainings for new and current volunteers centered on the mission of Catholic Charities, poverty education, trauma informed care, and our Catholic identity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities
  • Must be willing to perform by the agency’s values: love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, self-control, and joy
  • Catholic Charities promotes a diverse workforce. Employees are not required to be Catholic, however, employees of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas must understand that they are a visible representative of the Archdiocesan Church and as such will not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic Faith nor publicly advocate for any position in conflict with Catholic teaching, or the specific positions of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas or the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This requirement includes any public speech, demonstration, or writing including the use of social media or other digital technologies
  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required
  • Must possess a valid Kansas or Missouri Driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance and a verified safe driving record
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Flexibility with schedule to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • 1-3 years of volunteer coordination experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and respect people from a variety of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to work in a team setting, including Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas volunteers, colleagues, contractors, and funding sources
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Competency with Outlook, SharePoint, Canva, Excel, Google Sheets and PowerPoint is preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal customer service skills
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must have the physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
