Heartland Special Needs Foundation Hosts Free Community Education Event

Empowering Families: Tools for a Secure and Supported Future

Overland Park, KS – September 15, 2025 – The Heartland Special Needs Foundation (HSNF), a Kansas City–based 501(c)(3) public charity, invites families, caregivers, and community members to a free educational program, “Empowering Families: Tools for a Secure and Supported Future,” on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at The Golden Scoop, 10460 W 103rd St., Overland Park, KS 66214.

This evening event offers families valuable guidance for planning their loved one’s future while enjoying a welcoming community atmosphere. Ice cream will be available for purchase from The Golden Scoop, a beloved local café and social enterprise.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with professionals, share experiences, and build an inclusive support network within the Kansas City community.

Founded in 2020 by Samantha Shepherd, Heartland Special Needs Foundation provides education about special needs trusts, grants to underfunded trusts, and community engagement to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Through its Executive Board and many volunteers—Heartland Special Needs Foundation fills the gap between government benefits and the long-term needs of families.
