Community Housing of Wyandotte County is now Build WyCo
Kansas City, KS — Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) today announced its new name to the public – Build WyCo. The new name comes with an updated logo and color palette.
“We’ve always known that neighborhoods are more than just rooftops,” CEO, Brennan Crawford said in an announcement video, “Housing has always been at the center of our mission, but people also need places to gather, things to do together, and financial security to build thriving neighborhoods. CHWC has long built more than housing- we also offer financial education and assistance, and arts and wellness programs in our community. We’ve decided to adopt a name and way of talking about our work that better reflects all the things we do to help neighbors build stronger neighborhoods.”
“I think it’s important for people to know that our vision and our mission is staying the same,” said Sandra Olivas, Board Chair. “The heart of this organization is helping homebuyers, is helping families find a safe and affordable home.”
The announcement, which has been teased for months, culminated in a community celebration in downtown Kansas City, Kansas on Friday, September 19 that brought together an estimated 200 people to enjoy arts performances, food, special exhibits and craft vendors, and learn about Build WyCo’s work.
The new logo features three interlocking colorful stripes in the form of a house icon, emphasizing that home is at the core of Build WyCo’s mission, and that building strong communities requires multiple strategies working together. The vibrant colors and the interweaving stripes also signify the strength of Wyandotte County is in its diversity.
