Event Description:

Did you know that many of the services provided by human service and education organizations have now been classified as social determinants of health? If your organization provides services related to social determinants of health, you may be eligible to apply for grants from funders who typically fund health care organizations.

Social determinants of health are the economic and social conditions which influence differences in health status. They include: housing, education, employment, food, transportation, early childhood development, social exclusion, access to health care, addiction and more.

In this program, learn how your organization could apply for health care funding. We will examine the following questions:
  • What are the social determinants of health?
  • What are the most common definitions used by funders?
  • What impact do these definitions have on funding opportunities available to non-health organizations?
  • How can non-health organizations apply for grants from a funder who traditionally funds health care organizations?
  • How can non-health organizations partner with health care organizations?
This session is designed for:
  • Any organization providing services related to social determinants of health
  • Physical and behavioral health care organizations interested in partnering with organizations providing services which address social determinants of health
Our presenters are Julie Assel, GPC, and Julie Alsup, GPC of Assel Grant Services, an industry-leading consulting firm based in Kansas City specializing in grant research, proposal creation and grant management for nonprofits, school districts, and institutions of higher education.

A program of the Grant Writing series.
