
Let's Connect: Volunteer Engagement with Kate Heinen
As volunteer managers you know the critical role volunteers play in helping achieve your organization’s mission. Even still, sometimes our organization may view volunteer management as “herding cats,” instead of recognizing the esteemed role our volunteers play. Reframing our volunteer management practices to be more mindful and inclusive takes work.
Join Kate Heinen, Coordinator of Community Engagement at MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault), to learn about shifting language and creating inclusive policies for volunteers to encourage a human-centered approach. Participants will gain practical tips to help elevate volunteerism at their organization and show our volunteers the essential work they provide.
Then, we’ll use breakout rooms to facilitate small group discussions. You will have the opportunity to share your volunteer management policies and practices, ask questions about retaining volunteers during COVID, and gain new insight from your nonprofit peers.

Speakers:

Kate Heinen, MSW, works as the Coordinator of Community Engagement at the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) where she manages the recruitment, engagement, and training of MOCSA’s direct service volunteer program. Kate also serves on the board for Kansas City Womxn in Film & Media (KCWIFM) a 100% volunteer lead organization and serves as the co-chair for the Women’s Equality Coalition of Greater Kansas City. Kate is passionate about community activism, policy advocacy, and making sure we treat volunteers with the mindfulness and respect they deserve.
