KANSAS CITY JAZZ ALIVE!
Join the Board of Directors
Help advocate, elevate, and amplify the Kansas City jazz scene.

KC Jazz ALIVE! is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2013, that brings together artists, venues, educators, students, and enthusiasts to strengthen and showcase Kansas City’s vibrant jazz ecosystem. Our work spans year-round convenings and our signature Spotlight: Charlie Parker series each August, celebrating the life and legacy of Charlie “Bird” Parker. We’re now recruiting board members who love jazz, care about Kansas City, and are ready to serve.
WHO WE ARE
Our name says how we serve the scene — A.L.I.V.E.: Awareness, Listening, Ideas, Voice, and Exposure. We envision Kansas City as a premier destination for jazz, where career musicians thrive, venues succeed, and audiences of every age stay engaged.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Governance & Strategy — Help set organizational direction, uphold your fiduciary duties, and champion our mission across the community.
  • Ambassadorship — Represent KC Jazz ALIVE! with partners, funders, and civic leaders, and help amplify programs like Spotlight: Charlie Parker.
  • Fundraising & Resource Development — Make a personal annual contribution and open doors to donors, sponsors, and community supporters (see Time & Giving below).
  • Committee Work & Events — Serve on at least one committee, and support our events through attendance, outreach, and bringing guests along.
TIME & GIVING COMMITMENTS
  • Board Meetings — Every other month, on the second Tuesday, 6:00–7:00 p.m., in person or via Google Meet. Special sessions may also be called.
  • Annual Give-or-Get — $500, met through personal giving and/or support you secure from corporate sponsors, community partners, or your donor network. Board members also purchase their own event tickets and actively help with fundraising.
  • Committee Participation — Serve on at least one committee aligned to your strengths (fundraising, marketing, education, finance/governance, partnerships, and more). Committee cadence varies by project.
Location:  Kansas City metro preferred; remote participation is possible for part of the year.
Term:  Three-year term, renewable for one additional consecutive term (two terms maximum).
WHO YOU ARE
  • A champion for jazz and the Kansas City arts community.
  • Experience or genuine interest in one or more of the following: fundraising and sponsorships, community partnerships, marketing/PR, event production, arts education, finance/accounting, nonprofit governance, legal, or technology.
  • Collaborative and community-minded — you listen, contribute ideas, and lift up diverse voices across artists, venues, educators, and audiences.
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
A front-row role in shaping the future of Kansas City jazz, meaningful relationships across the scene, and the deep satisfaction of helping the whole ecosystem thrive — from artists and venues to students and lifelong fans.
