KC STEM Alliance Math Program Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The primary role of the Math Program Coordinator is to support the design and implementation of a new math initiative in Kansas City. Initially starting with a pilot program with the intent to scale to a regional program over five years.  This role will be instrumental in strengthening relationships within the STEM community and partner districts while identifying and developing opportunities to scale the program’s regional impact. As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to transform communities through innovative STEM education and opportunities for all. 

DUTIES

Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with educators, school staff, community partners, and volunteers through consistent, proactive communication (email, virtual, and in-person). Maintain relationships with evaluation and professional development teams to manage the program effectively and consistently. 

Volunteer Program Development: Work with the Community Engagement Specialist and industry partners to develop a robust volunteer network.  Design and deliver a high-quality training program that will increase volunteer readiness and program impact.

Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of STEM Outreach to design and execute a strategic regional growth plan that is informed by data from the pilot year.

Evaluation: Partner with a third-party evaluator and school district to implement evaluation plan. Maintain a strong understanding of formative assessment and data collection practices (completed by a third-party evaluator) to effectively communicate program outcomes, answer stakeholder questions, and demonstrate program impact.

Program Ambassador: Serve as a regional program ambassador, representing the initiative to stakeholders and building repeatable framework for other regions to launch the program.

Team Integration: Attend KC STEM Alliance team meetings and STEM Connect KC ecosystem Meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all stakeholders

  • Sense of urgency 

  • Team-oriented; ability to work with and support a fast-paced, highly functioning team

  • Desire to learn and maintain knowledge of stakeholders and ecosystem partners and their needs, calendars, and how they function

  • A passion for creating STEM access for all students

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, office productivity software, and common business computer technologies (e.g., Windows, Word, Excel, printers, copiers, and scanners, email)

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines

  • Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly

  • Collaborative problem solving by seeking input and ideas from others

  • Ability to function without close supervision

  • Formal math education experience is not required

This is a project-based contractor engagement (no benefits). This part-time role requires approximately 30 hours per week. While the specific schedule may be flexible, a majority of the hours must be worked during regular business hours (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday).

COMPENSATION: $40,000
