Youth Development Leader - Afterschool Program
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Site Director, the Youth Development Leader is responsible for planning, leading, and evaluating activities and programs for children in a licensed afterschool site. This role requires a strong commitment to youth development principles, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, and fostering positive relationships with participants, families, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Implementation:
- Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational and educational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, academic support, and social development programs.
- Ensure activities are age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and align with the goals of the program.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment, adhering to state licensing regulations and organizational policies.
- Provide direct supervision to participants, putting safety of children first, never leaving children unattended on in harm’s way.
- Administer first aid and respond to emergencies as needed, following established protocols.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a respectful and cooperative atmosphere.
- Address behavioral issues in a constructive and timely manner, involving parents or guardians as necessary.
- Document and report incidents according to organizational guidelines.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with youth, acting as a role model and mentor.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to foster strong partnerships.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a cohesive and supportive work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents.
- Ensure compliance with all licensing requirements and organizational policies, including confidentiality and child protection standards.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster connections with local schools, community organizations, and volunteers to enhance program offerings.
- Represent the organization at community events and outreach activities as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a recreational, educational, or childcare setting.
- Experience in a licensed childcare facility or youth program in Missouri is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead activities for diverse groups of youth.
- Proficiency in behavior management and conflict resolution.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a background check and meet the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for working with children.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Work is typically performed in a school or community setting.
- Physical activity is required, including standing, walking, and participating in activities with youth.
- May involve occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
