Events & Marketing Manager

The Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce is looking to hire an Events and Marketing Manager. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Events and Marketing Manager is responsible for planning and coordinating a variety of monthly events and programming and marketing the Chamber, which includes managing all the social media platforms.

The successful candidate will be a people-person, comfortable managing a variety of conflicting deadlines and projects, have a drive for results, a flexible approach, and be action-oriented. They will place a high value on a member-centered experience, teamwork, collaboration, and fun!

Event and Program Planning:

  • Plan and execute all Chamber B2B Social and Coffee Connection events;

    • Identify and secure host venues.

    • Work with the Membership and Communications Manager to update ChamberMaster with all event details.

    • Oversee event setup, execution, and teardown, ensuring all details are managed efficiently.

    • Coordinate ‘day-of’ event logistics; print check-in registration lists, signage, name badges, script, ensure the venue is ready to receive guests, welcome area is set, etc.

    • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during events and provide solutions in real-time.

  • Work with the Chamber Committees, plan and coordinate the monthly programming, including the Workforce SynQ and Emerge programs.

    • Meet with the Committee leadership and develop the programming and agendas for the meetings.

    • Set up zoom links and/or secure venues

    • Work with the Membership and Comms Manager to update ChamberMaster with all event details

    • Attend the programs and manage the logistics; test the zoom links, print registration lists, signage, name badges, script, ensure the venue is ready to receive guests, welcome area is set, etc. 

  •  Event and Program Administration

    • Conduct post-event evaluations, including member and Ambassador feedback, and staff debriefings.

    • Provide recommendations for future events based on evaluations.

    • Maintain detailed records of each event for future reference.

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with potential event hosts and look to develop sponsorship benefits.

    • Ensure all events stay within budget.

  • Work closely with the Ambassadors, communicating events and community program volunteer opportunities, and coordinating the Ambassador volunteers.

  • Work with the Executive Director and Planning Committee to plan and deliver annual events, including Transformation in the Workplace and the Business Pride Awards

Marketing

  • Develop, implement, and manage social media strategies to enhance the Chamber's online presence, increase engagement, and promote the organization's mission and events.

  • Develop and curate engaging, high-quality content for the Chamber’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.). This includes graphics, videos, blog posts, and other multimedia content.

  • Actively engage with followers, respond to comments and messages, and foster positive interactions with members and the community at large.

  • Working with the Membership and Communications Manager, continue to develop and enhance the Chamber’s website, adding videos, new graphics, and enhancing the user’s experience.

  • Keep up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices. Make recommendations for incorporating new techniques and technologies.

  • Develop and implement protocols for handling sensitive situations and crises on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.

General

  • Meet and work with Chamber Committees, supporting the volunteers and their agendas

  • Attend Chamber events, Committee Meetings, and planning sessions as requested.

  • Participate in appropriate continuing professional development as identified by the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • Proven track record and experience of successful event planning, preferably in a nonprofit or membership-based organization.

  • Proven experience in social media marketing, preferably within a non-profit or membership-based organization.

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, tools, and analytics.

  • Creative mindset with the ability to produce engaging content.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple events simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills..

  • Passion for community engagement and supporting local businesses.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Google, and CMS/database. Experience with Canva and  ChamberMaster/Growthzone is advantageous.

Additional Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Accountability: The full-time position is exempt and may require additional hours outside of the 40-hour work week. The Events and Marketing Manager reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director.

This position is hybrid, with a salary range of $45,000 - $49,500 depending on depth of experience.

Work Conditions

  • Hybrid working.
  • Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs.
  • Work schedule; Monday to Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm.
  • Hours may vary as some evening and weekend work will be required.
