People and Operations Lead
Position Title: People and Operations Lead
Reports to: Executive Director
Type: Full Time
Location: Tiffany Springs (Kansas City Northland), hybrid
Compensation: $50,000-$65,000 based on experience
Organization
Value Unconditional is a Christian ministry and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing free victim services to adults seeking healing from sexual violence and childhood trauma. The organization operates three primary program areas: restorative, education, and advocacy services.
Position Summary
The People and Operations Lead provides strategic and hands-on leadership for Value Unconditional’s internal people systems and organizational operations. This role supports the health, sustainability, and effectiveness of the organization by overseeing human resources functions, volunteer lifecycle management, internal policies, and day-to-day operational infrastructure.
This individual is a steady, highly organized, and relational leader who ensures staff, volunteers, and systems are supported, compliant, and aligned with Value Unconditional’s mission, values, and vision. The People and Operations Lead works closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to implement, refine and improve processes, and support organizational growth while maintaining trauma-informed, ethical, and people-centered practices.
Confidentiality, discretion, and alignment with organizational values are essential to this role.
People & HR Leadership
• Lead core human resources functions, including onboarding, offboarding, personnel files, and internal documentation for all staff and volunteers
• Conduct background checks and orient staff and volunteers to Value Unconditional
• Manage volunteer and staffing processes, including but not limited to creating and maintaining job descriptions for role clarity
• Maintain and update employee and volunteer policies, procedures, and handbooks in alignment with best practices and compliance requirements.
• Serve as a trusted point of contact advisor for staff regarding internal controls, expectations, and support needs.
• Support compliance with employment, volunteer, and nonprofit standards and requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive staff, volunteer, and organizational information.
• Assist leadership with risk management related to people, operations, and internal processes.
Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
• Oversee the full volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, training coordination, communication, engagement, retention, and offboarding.
• Conduct outreach to organizations, churches and corporations to engage and recruit volunteers
• Ensure volunteers are appropriately placed, supported, and equipped for their roles.
• Maintain accurate volunteer records, hours tracking, and compliance documentation.
• Provide hands-on training and support for volunteers as they perform their tasks
• Collaborate with committees and internal leadership to ensure volunteer capacity aligns with program needs.
• Support strategies to improve volunteer satisfaction, retention, and long-term engagement.
• Participate in evening or weekend activities as needed, including volunteer engagement events, presentations, and recruitment efforts
Operations & Internal Systems
• Oversee and improve internal operational systems, workflows, and administrative processes.
• Maintain organizational records, templates, and shared resources to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Support internal documentation and cross-team coordination.
• Ensure systems support accountability, clarity, and sustainability as the organization grows.
• Ensure accuracy of data and generate monthly reporting for programs
Collaboration & Organizational Support
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to identify operational gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Support cross-functional initiatives that strengthen internal capacity and mission delivery.
• Contribute positively to the team environment and support other organizational duties as assigned.
• Identify opportunities to deliver presentations for awareness of Value Unconditional programs; willing to present to raise awareness of organization needs, recruit volunteers, and encourage partnership
Education & Qualifications
•4+ years previous experience in human resources, volunteer management and/or operations
• Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven environments preferred.
• Experience developing or maintaining policies, procedures, or internal controls preferred.
• Must be able to work both independently to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Strong administrative and systems-thinking skills.
