Database Administrator

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation is seeking a skilled and proactive Database Administrator to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our core data platforms that support reporting, analytics, and day-to-day operations. 
This role is ideal for someone local to the Kansas City area who enjoys platform ownership, preventative problem-solving, and partnering with teams to keep critical systems running smoothly. 
 
What You’ll Do 
  • Oversee the health, availability, and performance of SQL Server and related data platforms, proactively identifying and resolving risks. 
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and utilization, tuning queries, indexes, storage, and compute resources for consistent and predictable performance. 
  • Manage core database administration activities, including maintenance plans, indexing strategies, and capacity planning. 
  • Develop and maintain automation using SQL Agent jobs, PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting tools. 
  • Design, implement, and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity. 
  • Support Azure-based data platforms, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security configurations. 
  • Collaborate closely with IT partners and stakeholders to support reliable data movement, reporting, and sound platform architecture decisions. 
  • Maintain clear operational procedures and documentation to support long-term platform stability. 
What You’ll Bring 
  • At least 3-6 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • Experience supporting Azure infrastructure related to data platforms. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution. 
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, T-SQL, Python, or similar tools. 
  • Working knowledge of security and access controls, including least-privilege and role-based access models. 
  • Ability to analyze issues, interpret technical requirements, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.
