Canvass Manager
Criminal Legal Reform Paid Canvass Manager Position – Kansas City, Kansas

ACLU-KS is organizing to change our cash bail system at the county level. As a part of this project, we’re gathering community support for the issue. ACLU-KS is looking for a Canvass Manager to manage a team of up to five canvassers for a six week period between September 28 and November 10. The canvass program will engage community members door-to-door for their support for bail reform and to support voter turnout in the general election.
This is a contracted position who reports to the ACLU-KS Field Director. This position's responsibility is to lead the door-to-door canvass program for issue support on bail reform and support voter turnout for the general election. The Canvass Manager will work closely with the Field Director and Criminal Legal Reform Organizer to support training and coaching of canvassers, manage turf, and calculate canvassing outcomes.
- Contract position, 6-week temporary time frame, estimated commitment of 10-15 hours per week
- Kansas City area
- Period of work will be between September 28 – November 10, 2024
- Compensation: $18 per hour based on time logs submitted
- Must submit a Form W-9 to receive payment of services
- Bilingual bonus payment available
- As a contractor you bear the commercial risk and tax obligations for this opportunity.
- Must have ability to get to and from locations for canvassing
- Availability on evenings and weekends
- Paid or volunteer experience as a canvasser for political campaigns
- Must have strong time-management skills
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred, eligible for differential pay
- People with lived experience with the criminal legal system in Kansas are strongly encouraged to apply
- Be a self-starter and work toward agreed upon goals
- Approach the general public and adapt to adjusting environments
- Collect accurate information when canvassing
- Be self-motivated, communicative, and responsive
- Manage and coach a team of up to five canvassers
- Report back to Field Director about canvass outcomes
- Prepare, maintain, and distribute canvassing supplies
- ACLU-KS believes our cash bail system is one of the most unfair aspects of our criminal legal system, in which there are two tiers for the exact same crime: those who can pay for their freedom, and those who can’t. People who can’t afford to pay bail remain in jail until their trial, and this has rippling effects on our communities. We’re organizing to change this system so that freedom doesn’t depend on how much money you have.
