About Us

The Friends of the Kansas City Public Library exist to support programs and projects of the Kansas City Public Library. We fund the purchase of current book for more than 44 book clubs to borrow. We have raised funds to support of the Digital Media Lab, the Outreach program, and Books for Babies. We sell pre-owned books at special sales throughout the year, one Arts & Coffee Table, one Cookbook, and one Children's & Young Adult. We sell books on the first Saturday of each month at the City Market from June through October. We sponsor author talks at the Library and co-sponsor an event with the Library and UMKC that focuses on literacy. Additionally, we host a charity book giveaway for organizations serving the homeless. The Young Friends sub-group hosts social activities with literary themes, movie nights at the Library, and other events for book lovers of all ages.
