About Us

The Society was chartered on December 8, 1988 as a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization and was incorporated as Monticello Community Historical Society Inc. on February 19, 1999. MCHS is dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and celebration of the history and heritage of the Monticello Community in Johnson County, Kansas.

MCHS publishes quarterly newsletters; has regularly scheduled meetings with history-related programs, which are always open to the public; stages local historical re-enactments, and sponsors field trips for members and the community.

As outlined in the MCHS Constitution - The purpose of this society shall be to bring together those people interested in history, and especially in the history of the Monticello Community. Understanding the history of our community is basic to our democratic way of life, gives us a better understanding of our state and nation, and promotes a better appreciation of our American Heritage.

In 1999 MCHS received ownership of the former Monticello Township fire station at Floyd Cline Hall (83rd and Gleason). It is now known as the Monticello Historical Station at Floyd Cline Hall, where meetings and activities are held for both members and the public.
