Media coverage is a surefire way to increase your nonprofit’s visibility. It provides legitimacy about the great work you do, while also capturing an audience that may have never been aware of your organization before.
Given today’s ever-changing media landscape, how can you increase your organization's chances of being noticed and mentioned? KMBC 9 News 5 and 9 pm weekday anchor Haley Harrison brings nearly 14 years of journalism experience to teach nonprofits how to get media coverage to bring attention to their mission. She’ll also provide examples of real, creative and meaningful stories featuring local organizations.
Personally Harrison has been an active volunteer with the Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry and Lead to Read, and wants to help nonprofits understand the best ways of getting the attention of reporters to share their inspiring stories with all of Kansas City.

Haley Harrison joined the KMBC News team in 2012 as a news anchor and reporter after nearly five years on the east coast with WJLA-TV in Washington DC and WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg VA. She grew up in Topeka and studied journalism at the University of Kansas.
In her career, Haley has covered some exciting stories, including Hurricane Irene, two State of the Union addresses, and the East Coast earthquake. Some of her most memorable and interesting interviews include documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, the late Marion Barry, 2008 Republican presidential hopeful and actor Fred Thompson. Haley is proud to have been part of the team that, in 2016, broke the story of Lamonte McIntyre, a Kansas City, Kansas man who was wrongly convicted of a double homicide. The coverage earned an Edward R. Murrow award and McIntyre was exonerated in 2017.
