Legal Aid of Western Missouri seeks an Administrative Assistant for our new Paseo office in Kansas City, Missouri, to assist our Economic Development Unit (the “EDU”). The EDU primarily serves as counsel to Kansas City’s historic urban-core neighborhoods on issues affecting blighted and abandoned properties. Through Legal Aid’s representation, these neighborhoods are able to bring action against absentee and out-of-town owners, using the Missouri Court’s to restore these once vacant properties to habitability.
 
The administrative assistant’s primary roles are to support a small team of attorneys and paralegals on a wide range of legal issues affecting Legal Aid clients; conduct in-person and telephone intake for the Paseo office and support intake staff in other Legal Aid offices; handle administrative tasks related to the office’s facilities and supplies; and other duties as assigned. This position may occasionally require some daytime travel within Legal Aid’s service area.  The position requires in-office presence Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spanish language fluency is preferred, but not required.
 
Physical Requirements: The person is this position needs to occasionally move about the inside of the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. and stand or sit stationary position much of the time.
 
The qualified candidate must have the following:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent typing ability
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Microsoft Word proficiency
  • Legal experience preferred, but not required.
 
Pay: $20.51/hour + DOE
