Communications Officer- Digital

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Officer – Digital supports the Foundation’s vision and strategic priorities by leading execution of digital communications across email and social media platforms. This role focuses on developing, scheduling, and managing content that engages key audiences while ensuring consistency with the Foundation’s brand and program goals. The Communications Officer collaborates closely with colleagues across Strategic Communications, program teams, and external partners to deliver effective digital engagement.
 
The Communications Officer – Digital and the Communications Officer – Operating Programs are complementary roles within Strategic Communications. Together, they provide integrated support under the Senior Manager – Content and Strategy, with the Digital Officer focusing on email and social media execution across platforms, and the Operating Programs Officer focusing on program-specific communications. Working in close collaboration, these roles ensure alignment between program goals, Foundation priorities, and digital engagement strategies.
 
Specific Responsibilities Include:
 
Email Marketing
  • Manage content, platform operations, and execution of the Currents newsletter, including template development and design, content creation, graphics, scheduling, and subscriber campaign management.
  • Serve as lead associate supporting Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including building customer journeys, email templates, campaign management, and associated content development.
  • Monitor analytics for email campaigns, providing reports and insights to the Senior Manager – Content and Strategy.
 
Social Media
  • Act as channel manager for all Foundation-owned social media accounts, Operating Program accounts, Amplify accounts, and other special projects.
  • Develop, curate, and schedule engaging social media content across platforms, ensuring consistency with Foundation brand and voice.
  • Partner with the Communications Officer – Operating Programs to align digital content and campaigns with the goals of each program.
  • Track performance metrics, analyze engagement trends, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
 
 
Collaboration & General
  • Ensure integration of digital efforts with broader communications strategies.
  • Work with designers, writers, and other associates to produce compelling digital content.
  • Stay current on best practices in digital communications, email marketing, and social media management.
  • Represent the Foundation professionally in interactions with internal and external audiences.
 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, journalism, marketing or related field; or equivalent experience.
 
Work Experience: Three years of experience in digital communications, email marketing, or social media management. 
 
Travel: This position may require occasional business travel.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates for this position must be highly motivated, capable of self-direction and able to work collaboratively in a team.  Candidates must exhibit a keen sense of responsibility and enjoy working with multiple demands, shifting priorities, and constant change.
 
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of email marketing, newsletter design, and digital content creation.
  • Has proficiency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (or similar CRM/marketing automation platform).
  • Has experience managing organizational social media accounts across multiple platforms.
  • Possesses excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills tailored for digital audiences.
  • Has a strong visual eye with ability to work with designers on graphics and templates.
  • Possesses analytical skills to interpret campaign performance metrics and optimize future content.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Has a professional demeanor with a commitment to collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Has proven success in managing social media channels for an organization, institution, or brand.
  • Possesses a passion for “doing what’s right,” with unquestioned integrity, positive ethics and values reflective of the Kauffman Foundation.
  • Has strong computer literacy skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
