Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Woodworking Team

As a volunteer in the Woodworking Department, you’ll help repair, restore, and refinish wooden furniture and household items to ensure they are sturdy, safe, and beautiful for our clients. Volunteers may fix broken legs, reinforce joints, sand surfaces, apply finishes, and complete minor assembly tasks. This hands-on role is perfect for those who have a willingness to learn a new skill or enjoy working with tools, have an eye for craftsmanship, and want to make a tangible difference.

Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Dish Pack Design Team

As a member of the Dish Pack Team, you’ll use your creativity and attention to detail to curate charming, mismatched dish sets for our guests. Your role involves selecting, sorting, and assembling complete sets of plates, bowls, cups, and silverware from a variety of donated items, ensuring every family receives a unique and functional collection for their table.

Youth Programs

As a volunteer, you’ll jump right into the fun by playing games, joining activities, helping with lessons, serving alongside students and simply being a positive presence. You don’t need any special skills. Just come ready to engage, encourage, listen and have fun!

Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Dock Team

Dock Team Volunteer Responsibilities: As a Dock Team volunteer, you will take an active role in loading moving trucks and vehicles with donated household goods and furnishings for our clients. You may also assist with accepting and unloading incoming donations. This position requires the ability to lift furniture and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Dock Team volunteers are essential to ensuring donated items reach the families who need them most.

Flourish Furniture Bank – Sewing Volunteer

As a Sewing Team volunteer, you’ll help repair and repurpose donated bedding, linens, and cushions to provide a fresh start for our clients. Beginners are welcome and can assist by cutting fabric or completing simple projects like placemats and pillowcases, while more experienced sewers can tackle advanced tasks such as refitting sheets or reupholstering furniture. This creative, hands-on role is perfect for those who enjoy sewing, want to learn new skills, and love making a tangible difference.

KC Marathon Course Monitors

Volunteer as a Course Monitor at the 2026 Garmin Kansas City Marathon on October 17. Groups of 10+ can earn $20 per volunteer as a fundraiser, while volunteers receive a free event T-shirt and service hours.

As a member of the Sorting Team, you’ll help sort, organize, and clean small household items for our guests. Volunteers also inspect donations for needed repairs, restock showroom shelves, and create attractive seasonal displays. This role is a great way to make a direct impact, keep our showroom organized and welcoming, and work alongside a friendly and dedicated team. Your work brings comfort and warmth to every home we serve.

American Cancer Society Corporate Champion

ACS partners with organizations to develop mutually beatifical partnerships. By being a corporate champion, you will be utilizing your network of contacts professionally and personally to help open doors to create opportunities that support our mission.

Volunteer with S.A.Y. Yes! Afterschool Program

Volunteers will engage with and support youth through activities, lessons, and recreation. They will also assist with serving food, cleanup, and other support tasks, while supporting the youth team in whatever ways are needed.

Weekday Volunteers

If you’re new to volunteering at The Sewing Labs, please attend a First-Time Volunteer Orientation before signing up. Opportunities include organizing donations, office support, quilting, testing or maintaining sewing machines, and sewing community outreach kits. Sewists create activity bags, walker bags, pillowcases, and navigation bags for local partners.

Volunteer at Hope Fall Fest

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us on Saturday, October 31st, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for our annual Hope Fall Fest Celebration.

Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Upholstery Repair Team

As part of the Upholstery Repair Team, you will help restore and repair upholstered furniture to ensure every item is in excellent condition for our clients. Volunteers mend tears, replace fabric, fix cushions, and perform other repairs to sofas, chairs, and more. This role is ideal for those with a willingness to learn a new skill or those with sewing or upholstery skills who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in bringing new life to donated items.

As a member of the Upholstery Cleaning Team, you play a vital role in ensuring every family leaves with clean, comfortable furniture. Volunteers clean and refresh upholstered items such as sofas, chairs, and cushions, making them look and feel their best for our clients. This hands-on role is perfect for those who enjoy working behind the scenes, take pride in attention to detail, and want to help families create healthy, welcoming homes. Your work helps every client feel cared for.

Front Desk Support

Do you like welcoming people from all over the world and being a part of a bustling environment? Support JVS and welcome clients by volunteering at the front desk over the lunch hour. Front desk volunteers fill in for staff during routine lunch breaks or scheduled time away. Be a welcoming “first impression” by greeting guests and escorting them to the waiting room.

As part of the Merchandising Team, you’ll use your keen eye for detail and trauma-informed mindset to thoughtfully stock and arrange household items on our showroom shelves. Your goal is to create an inviting, accessible, and dignified shopping experience for every guest, taking care to consider the needs and backgrounds of families who may be starting over after difficult circumstances. This role is perfect for those who want to combine creativity and compassion.
